- Near Ruhlsdorf, forest blaze largely contained – significant smoke emission
A wildflame in Nuthe-Urstromtal's municipality (located in Teltow-Fläming district) has been brought under control, the fire department states. The remaining task is minor put-out operations over an approximate 2.5 hectares, as reported from the command center in the evening. Initially, around 5 hectares were blazing in the afternoon. By 10 pm, a representative relayed that the firefighting efforts would be ceased. Night patrols and further put-out operations are planned for the following day. "The populace is in no danger," he concluded.
The flame sparked between Ruhlsdorf and Berkenbrück villages around 2 pm. Powerful winds quickly fueled the fire. According to command center reports, around 70 firefighters were present on the scene at the time. By evening, around 60 remained on duty. The command center held a hopeful outlook that the fire could be fully quenched in the near future.
Residents were urged to shut windows
Due to significant smoke production, residents were advised to keep their doors and windows sealed and to stay away from the affected zone.
In Brandenburg, the grimest risk level is currently in force in 13 out of 14 districts, as per the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment's online declaration. Only in Barnim district, the forest fire level 4, equating to a "high risk," is active.
The fiery embers could still potentially spark new flames if not properly extinguished. Residents should be extra vigilant and avoid any activities that could ignite new fires after the night patrols.
