The forest blaze on the ex-drill site close to Jüterbog seems to be containment complete, as suggested by the fire department on Sunday. No additional firefighting efforts are needed, according to the spokesperson for the command center. The burning portion of the site hasn't expanded further. The fire department anticipates the flames to eventually die down. Handover of the site to the owner is scheduled for Monday. The source of the inferno, which ignited on Thursday, remains a mystery. Presence of old explosives beneath the ground added complexity to extinguishing efforts. A firefighting helicopter was recruited to lend a hand. Historical flare-ups on the site are known. The blaze covered approximately 180 hectares, with up to 70 first responders taking part. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
