The Thomas Mann Prize of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts for 2024 goes to the writer Navid Kermani. This was announced by the Hanseatic City of Lübeck on Friday. Born in 1967, Kermani received the award for his narrative and essayistic work, which, with analytical brilliance and compassionate sympathy, has raised contemporaneity to a level that is unparalleled in contemporary literature, according to the jury's statement.

His numerous stories and novels are characterized by their linguistic brilliance, profound literary reflections and an artful play with his own biography, it continues. This is particularly true of Kermani's latest novel "Das Alphabet bis S", which illuminates the course of a year kaleidoscopically in 365 individual reflections.

The prize will be presented on September 27, 2024 at Theater Lübeck. It has been awarded alternately in Lübeck and Munich every year since 2010 and is endowed with 25,000 euros.

Navid Kermani's narrative and essayistic work in literature has earned him various awards. The acknowledgment of his latest novel, "Das Alphabet bis S", further solidifies his reputation in the literary world, as it was recognized with the Thomas Mann Prize.
