Nato summit discusses further aid for Ukraine

Zelenskyy has requested seven additional Patriot air defense systems from the allies to counter Russian attacks. One of these seven systems has already been delivered by Berlin, with further commitments expected in Washington. On Wednesday, there is a scheduled meeting of the North Atlantic Council among the 32 NATO countries. Following this, representatives from partner countries such as Moldova and Georgia will meet. In the evening, there will be a dinner for the heads of state and government, invited by US President Joe Biden.

SPD leader Olaf Scholz, a key figure in Berlin's decision to provide Ukraine with a Patriot air defense missile system, is expected to attend the NATO summit in Washington. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, expressed gratitude for Germany's aid and emphasized the urgent need for more support to fend off the ongoing war of aggression. Washington has demonstrated its commitment to Ukraine, with officials stating the delivery of additional Patriot systems is under consideration. The War of aggression from Russia has resulted in widespread destruction in Ukraine, particularly in Kiev, prompting increased calls for international aid. Despite the looming NATO summit, tensions remain high between NATO members and Russia, a concern that is likely to be addressed at the upcoming meetings in Washington.
