Blaze and Perspiration - Nation endures under intense, prolonged heat wave conditions

The United States is bracing for a scorching spell. By week's end, forecasters at the US Weather Service estimate "severe" heatwaves across various regions of the country, with the Midwest and Northeast projected to feel the heat first. Several temperature records could tumble, as temperatures soaring over 32°C (90°F) are predicted for numerous areas. New York City is expected to reach as high as 34°C (93.2°F) this week, while Washington D.C. could hit 37°C (98.6°F) during the upcoming weekend. Citizens are advised to prepare for intense heat waves in many locations, as nighttime temperatures might barely dip below 24°C (75.2°F).

Heatwave and Forest Fires in California

Meanwhile, California grapples with a forest fire. Nearly 1,600 firefighters have been battling a blaze in this West Coast state. By Monday evening (local time), over 63 square kilometers had been ravaged in the Los Angeles district and adjacent Ventura County, according to authorities. Firefighters managed to control around 20% of the area by evening, with the threat of the flames reaching settlements averted. The fire's origin remains unknown.

Authorities closed access to Pyramid Lake, where the flames were spreading, on Sunday. About 1,200 people were forced to flee the affected region, roughly 150 kilometers north of Los Angeles, as per the fire department. This blaze marks the largest in California this year, with summer heat and strong winds rapidly spreading the flames through the dry underbrush.
