National squad - Nagelsmann urges Sane to train for potential inclusion in Euros
Julian Nagelsmann has defended Leroy Sané, who has faced some criticism lately. "He needs to train the whole week and play against Greece. He missed three games and hasn't found his rhythm on the national team level," said the coach after their 0:0 draw against Ukraine.
The 28-year-old Sané was absent in their last match due to a red card in the practice game in Austria in November. In addition, he's still not completely healed from his injury. "He made a good impression physically today," Nagelsmann shared about Sané's progress.
"The thigh injury won't heal quickly"
Whether Sané can be included in the starting lineup for the Euros is still uncertain. He may only have a bench role for the tournament at this point. "The thigh injury you can't fully recover from that quickly," stated Nagelsmann. "He can challenge for a starting spot, but he needs to train and participate in team sessions," insisted Nagelsmann.
It seems Nagelsmann intends to give Sané some playing time in their last Euro warm-up game against Greece on Friday (8:45 p.m./RTL). He should "play against the Greeks but not for the full 90 minutes, just some playing time." Then, we'll see "what happens before Scotland," mentioned the coach, referring to the Euro opening match on the 14th of June.

Nagelsmann's urge for Sané to train extends beyond just the draw against Ukraine, as he aims to include him in Germany's Euro squad. During their preparations in Austria, Sané picked up a red card and hasn't fully recovered from his injury, making his inclusion in the starting lineup uncertain. Despite this, Nagelsmann intends to give Sané some playing time against Greece in their last Euro warm-up game, before Germany's opening match against Scotland in the EM. Meanwhile, as Julian Nagelsmann continues to manage Bavaria's team, the DFB keeps an eye on potential talent from other clubs, such as Austrian soccer teams.
