There had been diplomatic tensions surrounding this year's memorial service in Nagasaki. The reason was the absence of an invitation to Israel, which the mayor of the city justified by the desire to avoid any disruption to the ceremony in light of the Gaza conflict. The ambassadors of the USA and several other Western countries announced that they would not attend the event due to Israel's non-invitation.
