Nabu: Vote on open land policy program in Lübeck

Marine protection, positions on the 2024 European elections and the adoption of a basic program on open land - this weekend, around 260 delegates of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (Nabu) from all over Germany will meet in Lübeck to discuss and vote on various environmental policy issues. The focus will be on the Open Land Policy Program, which focuses on a model of vital populations and functioning ecosystems, the nature conservation organization announced on Friday. According to the information provided, the program is dedicated to the opportunities and risks of innovations and discusses these on the basis of selected topics: Digital Farming, Green Genetic Engineering, Alternative Proteins.

A resolution on marine protection will also be adopted at the Federal Representatives' Assembly. "We are currently seeing just how great the challenges in nature conservation and environmental protection are on our doorstep in the highly emotional discussions about the Baltic Sea National Park," said Dagmar Struß, Deputy Chairwoman of Nabu in Schleswig-Holstein. "Nabu acts as an advocate for nature and is therefore also committed to the effective protection of our livelihoods throughout Germany."

The election of the Executive Committee is also on the agenda. Nabu President Jörg-Andreas Krüger and all existing members of the Executive Committee are standing for re-election. The Federal Representatives' Assembly is Nabu's most important decision-making body.

During the discussions, the delegates might highlight the importance of aligning personal details of members with their associations for effective communication and organization within the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union's initiatives, such as the Open Land Policy Program. Moreover, the Union could consider establishing partnerships with other organizations for nature conservation, acknowledging the potential benefits of collaborations with associations working towards similar goals in the field of nature conservation.
