It began last Friday evening on a country road in the district of Lichtenfels. According to police reports on Thursday, the 51-year-old driver of a van noticed a car with hazard warning lights at the side of the road and stopped to offer help.

However, a stranger attacked him and his 56-year-old passenger with pepper spray and tried to remove the ignition key. This failed and the key broke off. The stranger then fled with his suspected accomplice.

According to the police, the 51-year-old later parked the van in Kronach - where the vehicle was stolen in the following hours. The van has since been found again in Saxony near Aue, they said. However, the license plates were missing. The Coburg police are looking for witnesses.
