The upcoming season for tourism has led to a noticeable improvement in the job market around the northeastern region. The number of jobless individuals in the area of MV decreased by 2k in May, reaching 62,700 people. Consequently, the unemployment rate dropped from 7.9% to 7.6%. Just a year ago, the number stood at 7.5% during the same period.

The Regional Directorate North's representative, Thomas Letixerant, highlighted the significance of this change in the economy. He expressed seeing promising signs for finding and being hired by local companies despite the challenging economic climate. He compared the current situation to the statistics accessible up to mid-May.

Positive shifts were observed across age brackets and demographic groups in the region. Job boards had reported 16,500 open job positions in May, available for all job seekers. These positions were 1,800 lesser than the positions reported in May of the previous year, indicating a reduction of around 10%. Health and social services, trade, and processing industries had the highest demand for workers.

Inspecting district-wise records, the Rostock district had the lowest unemployment rate—5.8%, while the highest was recorded in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district at 8.9%. In Schwerin and Rostock, the figures were 9.9% and 7.4%, respectively.

The Vorpommern-Rügen district quickly saw a significant decline in its unemployment rate, with it dropping from 9.0% in April to 8.5% now. Thorsten Nappe of the Stralsund Employment Agency attributed this to the tourism sector's seasonal start in April, and he noted that this trend continued in May.

The unemployment rate in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district was 6.2% in May, according to the Schwerin Employment Agency, whereas the Nordwestmecklenburg district had an unemployment rate of 6.7%. Guntram Sydow, the chief of the Schwerin Employment Agency, said, "The labor market in West Pomerania is showing mild expansion due to the customary spring revival during May."

The unemployment rate in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district rested at 8.6%, matching the figure from the previous year. After further examination, the head of the Neubrandenburg Employment Agency, Andreas Wegner, stated that the Seenplatte district had also seen fewer unemployed people due to the ongoing spring revival.

The Regional Directorate detailed the latest in the apprenticeship market. For May, 4,400 apprenticeship spots were available, but that's 900 lesser compared to May 2023. The number of applicants, 2,800, was the same as the figure from last year.
