Weather - MV water police warn of ice collapse

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will have to brace itself for snow and freezing temperatures for several more days. As part of this, the State Water Police Office warned the population on Tuesday not to enter apparently frozen waters. The ice is too thin for this in many places and there is a danger to life if you break through into the cold water.

In addition to a warning, the water police also issue recommendations for emergencies. If someone is seen breaking through a sheet of ice, the emergency number should be called immediately. If available, ropes, poles or lifebuoys can be used to help the person in distress. However, helpers are cautioned not to put themselves in danger.
