Museum opens in renovated Schumann House

The museum in the former home of musician couple Robert and Clara Schumann opens to the public for the first time on Friday (10.00 am). For three years, from 1852 to 1855, the composer and his wife, the pianist Clara Schumann, lived in the house in Düsseldorf's old town together with their seven children.

Around 100 exhibits relating to the Schumanns will be on display in the museum. They come from the extensive Schumann collection of the city of Düsseldorf and will be regularly exchanged. This also includes numerous pieces of music written by Robert Schumann, which will also be heard on site - such as the "Rhenish Symphony". Admission is free on the opening weekend and the opening will be accompanied by several concerts.

The city had the building renovated over a period of four years to make it a listed building and barrier-free. The costs of around 7.7 million euros were partly covered by private donors and foundations.

Visitors can explore the rich history of Robert and Clara Schumann at the newly opened museum, situated in the beautifully renovated Schumann House. The museum houses over 100 exhibits, including several of Robert Schumann's musical compositions, providing a unique insight into their musical and personal lives.
