- Muscular Tear Occurs: Appelkamp Takes a Temporary Break
Fortuna Düsseldorf is temporarily without Shinta Appelkamp's services. The 23-year-old midfielder has experienced a tear in one of his thigh muscles, which thankfully does not involve the tendons, according to the club's statement after a medical assessment. As a result of this injury, Appelkamp was unable to feature in Fortuna's DFB Cup encounter against Dynamo Dresden (0:2) on Sunday.
In the previous season, Appelkamp had to spend some time off due to a tear in his calf muscle. However, he proved his significance to coach Daniel Thioune's squad with three goals and ten assists in a total of 25 league games. Regrettably, in the unfortunate relegation against VfL Bochum, he managed to play just a handful of minutes in the first leg.
Despite the injury, Appelkamp's absence was not felt strongly in the Second League, as Fortuna Düsseldorf continued their impressive form. Following his recovery, Appelkamp was eager to contribute to the team's push for promotion back to the Bundesliga.
