Murder of daughter and sister planned: Trial
A 45-year-old man is to stand trial again in Augsburg on Tuesday (9.00 a.m.) for making death threats against his own teenage daughter. A 24-year-old brother of the victim is also on trial. The men are said to have chastised and injured the girl for years from the age of around twelve, partly because of a relationship with a friend. Both defendants are in custody.
At a family tribunal in the presence of the daughter, they are said to have discussed how the child could be killed. The daughter, who is now 17 years old, eventually fled to the youth welfare office and was placed in a secret location by the authority.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused belonged to the Yazidi faith at the time. The relatives of the young people are said to have considered the daughter's relationship in particular as a defilement of the family honor because the man was not a Yazidi. Relationships are only accepted within the religious community. Yazidis originally come from Iraq, Turkey, Syria or Iran.
The Augsburg district court had already sentenced the two men to three years and eight months in prison each. After an appeal was lodged by the defendants and the public prosecutor's office, the case must now be retried at the regional court in Augsburg.
During the family tribunal, the discussion about the daughter's potential death was attributed to the influence of their religious beliefs, as the defendants were followers of Yazidi faith at the time. Despite being accused and convicted of their crimes, these individuals believed that their daughter's relationship with an outsider of their faith constituted a grave offense that warranted such severe measures.
