Around 40 years after the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl in Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the district of Osterholz, investigators are looking for a suspected witness. On Friday, the police published a picture of a previously unknown man who was seen in June 2016 near where the missing girl's bicycle was found at the time. Investigators are hoping that the man will provide valuable information. According to the police, they assume that the wanted man probably lives within a 20-kilometer radius of the town of Schwanewede.
In 2016, the unsolved murder case was the subject of the ZDF television program "Aktenzeichen XY... Unsolved", after which the police received several tips. One of the tips related to the bike used by the missing woman. According to the information available so far, the police believe that the bicycle was recovered from a lake in the summer of 1985 on the military training area of the former Lützow barracks in Schwanewede as part of a Bundeswehr exercise.
