Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities have recently collected more trade tax. In the first three quarters of this year, it amounted to 942 million euros, 113 million euros more than in the same period of the previous year, the State Statistical Office announced in Halle on Wednesday. This corresponds to an increase of 13.6 percent. However, not all municipalities benefited to the same extent. According to the statisticians, 52.8 percent of municipalities recorded an increase in trade tax revenue, while 47.2 percent saw their income fall short of the previous year's figure.

According to the data, the city of Leuna was the front-runner with 133 million euros in trade tax and an increase of 94 million euros. The state capital Magdeburg took in 104 million euros, an increase of 5 million euros. In Halle, on the other hand, after a minus of 7 million euros, the total trade tax in the first three quarters of 2023 was 80 million euros. According to the figures, the municipalities collected an average of 432 euros in trade tax per inhabitant.

The increase in trade tax collection by Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities is a statistic that could potentially influence their budget steering decisions. This significant rise, amounting to 13.6%, surpassed the 942 million euros collected in the same period of the preceding year.

Budget officials in some municipalities may find it challenging to distribute the collected trade tax revenue equitably, considering that while half of the municipalities experienced an increase, the other half fell short of the previous year's figure.
