Following the flooding at the beginning of the year, the state of Lower Saxony has allocated 18 million euros for the removal of damage to public infrastructure.

- Municipalities can apply for flood aid

Lower Saxony's cities and municipalities can apply for financial aid from the state to repair public infrastructure damaged by flooding starting from Thursday. Applications must be submitted via the NBank customer portal by October 31, as announced by the funding bank. Initially, 18 million euros have been earmarked for this program.

The state will cover up to 80% of the costs, and up to 95% for financially struggling municipalities. This includes repairs to roads, bridges, and parks, as well as kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and drinking water and sewage facilities.

Communities do not have to repay the aid

The prerequisite is that the flood damage occurred between December 24 and April 30. Communities can also pass on the money, for example, to associations. They do not have to repay the aid to the state later.

The NBank has been accepting applications for flood aid for private households and businesses for some time.

The financial aid program for repairing public infrastructure affected by flooding is offered by Lower Saxony to cities and municipalities, including those in The Hanover. The aid can cover up to 95% of the costs for financially struggling municipalities, encompassing repairs to various facilities like roads, bridges, parks, schools, hospitals, and water and sewage facilities.
