Municipalities can apply for aid due to flood damage

The floods around the turn of the year caused millions in damage. Local authorities, as well as clubs and associations, can now hope for aid from the state.

Flood - Municipalities can apply for aid due to flood damage

The flooding over Christmas 2023 and the turn of the year 2023/24 caused significant damage to public infrastructure. Communities, associations, and clubs can now submit applications for financial aid at the NBank, as the Interior Ministry in Hannover announced. The application deadline runs until October 31.

According to the ministry, initially 18 million Euros are planned in the state budget for the removal of damage to public infrastructure. The state will support this generally with up to 80 percent, for financially weak communities it can be up to 95 percent, it was stated.

In total, the state government has set aside around 111 million Euros in a supplementary budget, with which damages are to be remedied and investments for flood protection are to be made.

The devastating floods during Christmas 2023 and the beginning of 2024 impacted Lower Saxony, causing extensive damage to municipalities like Hanover. Many communities are now working on submitting applications for financial aid to mitigate the flood damage, with the deadline set by the Interior Ministry as October 31. Despite the significant damage, the state government has allocated 111 million Euros in a supplementary budget, planning to cover up to 95% of the costs for financially weak municipalities.
