European Football Championship - "Munich turns orange" - fans celebrate
A City in Orange: Hours before the Quarter-final between Romania and the Netherlands, cheerful football fans transform Munich into a party zone. In the evening, shortly after kick-off, the police of the state capital are satisfied: Everything is running smoothly and calmly so far, said a police spokesperson.
Particularly around the Olympiapark, Dutch football fans dance, hop and cheer with flags, drums - and many of them in the orange jerseys of their team. Romanian fans in Blue-Yellow-Red gather meanwhile on Marienplatz in the Old Town and get themselves in the mood for the evening's game with songs and drums in front of the historic Town Hall. Dutch fans also mingle among them - and pose peacefully with the Romanian women and men.
Orange reigns supreme: "Munich turns Orange", writes the German-language fan site oranjefußball on the platform X. The mood: Peaceful, funny and contagiously happy, just like at previous Dutch games at this European Championship. With that: Hats in all imaginable forms, bright orange flags and many megaphones. Neon orange Lederhosen creations are also worth admiring. The police report around 7000 people participating in the Oranje Fanwalk in the north of Munich, en route to the Fan Zone at the Olympiastadion. And apart from some pyrotechnics, everything is peaceful.
Bavarian football fans might also feel addressed by this Dutch people's song: "Viva Hollandia", also known as one of the hymns of the Oktoberfest, where it is called "Viva Bavaria" instead.
