Munich tennis pro Gojowczyk announces the end of his career

Munich tennis pro Peter Gojowczyk has announced his retirement from professional sport. "Today I can proudly say that I have lived my dream of being a professional tennis player," the 34-year-old announced on Instagram.

Gojowczyk's career included winning an ATP title in Metz in 2017 and reaching the round of 16 at the US Open in 2021. Most recently, he failed to qualify for the tournament in Metz.

"I've played against some of the best players in the world, like Roger and Rafa, which was an incredible experience and honor," wrote the Bavarian, referring to the duels against former world number ones Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The former 39th-ranked player in the world emphasized the values he had developed in his career: Independence, discipline and ambition. "Tennis will remain part of my life, but a new and wonderful chapter begins now," wrote Gojowczyk. Tennis icon Boris Becker also congratulated Gojowczyk on his successful career on Instagram. "Well done Gojo," wrote the 55-year-old in a comment under Gojowczyk's post.

People from all over the tennis world have expressed their appreciation for Gojowczyk's career achievements, including his ATP victories and challenging matches against tennis legends like Federer and Nadal. The ATP Tour, in particular, recognized his achievements with numerous memorable moments.
