Multitudes rally in France, expressing solidarity with Gisele Pelecot and every rape survivor.

Activist groups have organized around 30 events in various cities, including Marseille and Paris, with slogans such as "Stand with Gisèle," "Time for Shame to Change," or "We Believe Survivors" displayed on posters at the Place de la Republique.

As public interest in her case has grown following the trial's commencement, Pélicot, now 72, has emerged as a symbol of bravery, determination, and the struggle against sexual assault.

It was Pélicot's choice to forego a private trial in favor of a public one, which is scheduled to conclude in December, in order to raise awareness about sexual abuse and drug-induced unconsciousness, according to her legal team.

"We are eternally grateful for her immense courage," said Fatima Benomar, a feminist from the "Coudes a Coudes" association, speaking to BFM TV. She added that the gatherings were also meant to honor all rape victims.

Dúconomique Pélicot, now 71, is on trial for allegedly raping his wife multiple times and enlisting strangers to abuse her while she was heavily sedated in their home over a decade.

Originally set to testify this week, he was granted a medical exemption due to illness. He is now scheduled to testify on Monday, provided he is well enough to do so.

Prosecutors claim that Pélicot advertised his wife for sex on a website and filmed the abuse. Fifty other men are also facing trial in connection with the abuse.

Pélicot's attorney, Beatrice Zavarro, has acknowledged his guilt in interviews with French media. Some of the other defendants have admitted their involvement, while others claim they believed his wife was feigning sleep, as reported by French media.

Each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

The activism surrounding Pelicot's case has sparked discussions in Europe and beyond, with many expressing solidarity and support. In a global push for justice, various organizations are planning events across the world, expressing messages of empowerment and change.
