Police on motorcycles led the way, with two officers holding up a photo of Laur as they made their way through the city. Fire department response teams and rescue services lined the railway path, ready on standby.

Funeral proceedings are scheduled to take place at the Rosengarten Congress Center from 11:00 am onwards for the slain 29-year-old police officer. In attendance will be Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), and State Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU).

Two weeks ago, a 25-year-old Afghan caused mayhem at Mannheim Market Square, attacking five demonstrators from the anti-Islam movement Pax Europa and two police officers with a knife. The fatally wounded officer ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
