Numerous attendees arrived bearing blossoms and candles. Solingen's city leader, Michael Mohr, expressed, "The city isn't the same as it was yesterday." A multitude of soccer scarves, plush toys, letters, and sympathetic messages had been left at the attack site.
"Finding the right words is nearly impossible - actions speak louder," Mohr conveyed. The Protestant figurehead Ilka Werner also emphasized the soothing influence of the community. "It's wonderful that you're here," she commented. A team of counselors, easily identified by their purple vests, were also present on the square. The vigil was set to soft music.
