Thousands of people gathered in Wangen im Allgaeu, Germany, for its annual Folk Festival. The event saw the participation of 127 groups, from Wyk auf Foehr in the north to Vorarlberg in the south.

As the first Vice President of the German Folk Costume Association, Gunter Dlabal, explained, there were several stages set up around the city for the weekend celebrations. Visitors could easily hop between these stages to catch a glimpse of the different performances by costume groups. This made it challenging to determine an exact number of attendees, but Dlabal estimated that at least 4,000 people showed up in the Old Town on Saturday.

The festival was expected to continue with a procession of 121 groups and more than 4,000 participants on Sunday afternoon, all Marching through the Old Town of Wangen. The German Folk Costume Association, the city, and the Landscape Garden were all confirmed to participate in the festival set for 2024.

The association boasts approximately one million members and claims to uphold heritage, dialect, and mother tongue through their initiatives. In addition to their dedication to cultural preservation, the organization also promotes folk songs and dance.

Extraordinary circumstances forced the Landscape Garden in Wangen to close its doors on June 1st. The city, which sits on the Argen, issued a flood warning the day prior, resulting in the cancellation of events at the Landscape Garden site.
