A man believed to have set two garbage cans ablaze in a Berlin neighborhood has been taken into custody by the police. The officers received a call on Monday morning about a burning waste bin in the backyard of a multi-family house on Hasselwerderstraße. Witnesses spotted a suspicious individual and reported his whereabouts.

Upon investigation, the officers discovered the man opening a barrel, which began to smoke shortly after. Neighbors quickly put out the blaze to avoid further damage.

The 64-year-old suspect was caught with fireworks and matches on him. The criminal police are now carrying out an investigation into arson. They will determine if this individual is responsible for any other similar incidents.
