Mannheim's headline or description: Rethinking Sustainability: Mannheim Student's Invention Reduces Plastic Waste in the City - Multiple officers present at Pax Europe gathering following stabbing incident.
Recently, Pax Europa hosted a protest in Dortmund, following a knife attack on their event in Mannheim. The police presence was significant, with an undisclosed number of officers present alongside civil servants. The entire event was encircled by two fences with police between them for added security. Access to the area was controlled, and the police stated it was a precautionary measure based on a threat assessment. Occasional arguments with bystanders occurred, but they were typical for these types of events.
Pax Europa reported having 30-40 participants registered for their protest. Stefanie Kizina, their treasurer, assured they had police protection and double fences. There were no plans for security from the organization.
An injured member of the board, Michael Stürzenberger, was not there. Kizina mentioned he needed time to recover fully before returning. Cancelling the demonstration due to the events in Mannheim was out of the question, as it would send the wrong message.
A 25-year-old Afghan man stabbed five Pax Europa demonstrators in Mannheim the previous Friday. A police officer, age 29, died from their injuries. The attacker was shot by a police officer during the incident and was being treated in the hospital, making it impossible for them to be questioned.
Despite occasional disputes with spectators, the atmosphere was described as "very quiet."
