In the Neuwied district, two mishaps implicating an ambulance took place on the same day. In the early afternoon of a Wednesday, there was a lapse between an ambulance and a car on the Bundesstraße 256 in Oberhonnefeld-Gierend. As per the police's Thursday statement, the car's driver only sustained superficial wounds.
The ambulance service was heading to an emergency with its blue warning lights and horns blaring. The driver of the car strove to halt but was unable to do so before crashing into the ambulance. Due to the tight spot, moving suddenly wasn't an option, causing the ambulance driver to ram the car. The driver of the car sustained minimal injuries. The damaged ambulance was dragged away.
Later in the Wednesday evening, there was an additional event in Dierdorf. According to police declarations, the operator of a medical transport vehicle hit the posterior part of a stationary vehicle because of distraction. Neither party was harmed, but the vehicle transporting the medical team had to be taken away.
