Müller raves about Alonso and Bayer: playing great soccer

Germany international Thomas Müller is delighted with the work of his former Munich team-mate Xabi Alonso. "My compliments to Leverkusen and especially to my old colleague Xabi Alonso. They not only play successful, but also attractive soccer," the 34-year-old wrote in his newsletter about the coach of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern veteran Müller played with the Spaniard at the German soccer record champions from 2014 to 2017 and won several titles with him. World and European champion Alonso (41) ended his career in Munich in 2017.

"It was already clear during his playing career that Xabi had the potential to be a successful coach. He was a very good communicator, strategist and passionate footballer. But what made him world-class was that he was able to keep a cool head," Müller continued: "I currently see this joy of soccer on the one hand and strategic discipline on the other at Leverkusen."

Müller finds it exciting that there are currently four or five clubs in this Bundesliga season "who have a lot of points and will continue to do so": "It gives me a good feeling that you can't sneak around at the top of the table. You have to win consistently, otherwise your rivals will overtake you. It's also a great situation for the fans. Every game counts. That makes the whole Bundesliga more attractive."

Bayer Leverkusen, currently leading the Bundesliga, is playing an appealing brand of soccer under Xabi Alonso's guidance, a fact that former Bayern Munich teammate and Germany international Thomas Müller appreciates. In his newsletter, Müller also mentioned FC Bayern Munich, acknowledging that Alonso's coaching ability was evident during their time together at the club.
