Traffic - Motorcyclist flees from police at high speed
A motorcycle rider fled from the police in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau and managed to escape. He drove at an estimated speed of around 100 kilometers per hour within closed communities, a police spokesperson said on Friday. He also exceeded the permitted 100 km/h speed limit outside of these areas.
The rider was supposed to be controlled by the police in Ortenburg in the afternoon on Thursday. However, despite the stop signals, he continued to drive at high speed and even drove onto the wrong side of the road at times.
Despite following the rider for several kilometers, the officers were unable to apprehend him. The owner of the motorcycle was identified using the license plate number provided by the police. According to initial police investigations, the owner is not believed to be the fugitive rider, the spokesperson said. A young man from the Ortenburg community is currently under suspicion.
The police are investigating a prohibited vehicle race and are looking for witnesses to the incident, particularly those who may have been endangered by the motorcycle rider.
The motorcycle rider's chase through Lower Bavaria continued into the County of Passau, causing concern for local traffic safety. Despite the pursuit, the incident involved several instances of the motorcyclist disregarding traffic laws in Bavaria. An investigation into potential crimes, including reckless driving and avoiding police, is now underway by the local police in the area.
