- Motorcyclist fleeing police in Maizefield
A 20-year-old moped rider fled into a cornfield to avoid a police checkpoint. The young man was traveling on State Route 2248 near Ehingen (District of Ansbach) on Thursday and briefly stopped when officers attempted to pull him over, police said.
He then tried to drive the moped into a cornfield, but fell and fled on foot into the field, a police spokesman said. Several police units then surrounded the cornfield and used loudspeakers to urge the man to come out.
It took the support of the man's father to coax him out of the field an hour later, the spokesman said. The reason for his flight: he did not have a valid driver's license for the moped. Police are investigating the incident for driving without a license.
The young man's sudden decision to flee into the cornfield appeared to stem from his curiosity about the officers' intentions. Upon hearing the police's requests over the loudspeakers, his curiosity turned into apprehension, causing him to remain hidden in the field for an hour.
