Numerous fans of the Turkish football national team celebrated the entry into the EM quarterfinals in Berlin with wild enthusiasm. After the 2:1 win against Austria, many people took to the streets in the capital jubilantly. On the Kurfürstendamm in Charlottenburg, there was once again the traditional car procession. The fans had Turkish flags with them and, according to observers, also set off pyrotechnics. There were also loud horn honking and fireworks in other parts of the city.

Countless Turkish fans followed the quarterfinal in Berlin's fan zone in front of the Brandenburg Gate, which was opened for additional public viewings. Since the EM game was not broadcast freely on television, many Turkish fans took advantage of the opportunity.

Tragic Accident after Turkey Victory in the Previous Week

In the previous week, after the victory of the Turkish team against the Czech Republic in Berlin-Neukölln, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a car. There was a large car procession on the Hermannstraße. The police do not exclude that the death of the 67-year-old man is related to a celebration of the victory. The investigations are still ongoing.

The 67-year-old man died in the night of June 27, after being hit by a car. A vigil was held at the site of the accident on Tuesday. The driver had initially fled, but later turned himself in to the police and claimed to be the driver. According to media reports, Turkish flags were waving in his car. Before the accident, the car was reportedly driving erratically and fast.

Tens of Thousands on Berlin Fan Mile

Despite cool and rainy weather, the fan mile was again well attended: The organizers counted over 23,000 people there throughout the day. According to them, 17,000 were in the fan zone Brandenburg Gate, 6,000 in the area in front of the Reichstag, as they called it.

  6. The German authorities emphasized the importance of enjoying soccer and leisure time activities responsibly and asked fans to avoid any actions that might endanger themselves, others, or public property.
  7. A significant number of Turkish fans in Berlin expressed their appreciation for the German police, recognizing their efforts and support in maintaining a peaceful and enjoyable environment.
