Crime - "Mother of all wedding corsos": trial before Christmas
Almost five years after a highway blockade that was described by investigators as the "mother of all wedding parades", seven men are due to go on trial shortly before Christmas. According to the Düsseldorf district court, the charges include coercion, driving without a license and a violation of the Weapons Act.
The court announced on Thursday that the trial has been scheduled for December 20. The defendants are between 30 and 41 years old. They are accused of blocking all three lanes on the A3 near Ratingen in the direction of Cologne - including the bride's car - because of a wedding on March 22, 2019. Another car then left a circular skid mark on the freeway in front of the cars with smoking tires. In the speeding scene, this is called a "donut", which is why the police investigation commission was given this name.
According to the indictment, the action was filmed and photographed until an unmarked police patrol arrived. One of the participants was waving a pistol around and later fired it into the air, while another man was driving a limousine without a driver's license.
After the wedding parade, there were numerous other incidents in NRW. The police drew up a situation report, distributed flyers as a warning and wrote a number of reports. The situation calmed down again during the coronavirus pandemic.
