Illegality - Mother apprehended after child tossed from third floor window.
A toddler was discovered seriously hurt inside a cat carrier in front of a residence in Berlin, assumedly tossed from a third-floor window by her mother. According to police and prosecutors, the 21-month-old girl was found in Berlin-Treptow, southeastern capital region, on Monday afternoon. Her 41-year-old mother was apprehended by police following the occurrence. The underlying cause for the crime remains obscure, the prosecution stated.
As per the police, the wounded child was seen sobbing in the cat carrier. A witness stumbled upon the box and the baby on the ground at the rear of the apartment building. He then reported the incident to the fire department, who transported the injured baby to the hospital. The child wasn't at immediate risk of death but was diagnosed with "serious fall injuries," as stated by the prosecution spokesperson. "B.Z." reported details of bone fractures.
The family's living quarters are on the third floor of a building in the Altglienicke district, near Berlin's Tegel Airport. The mother is presumed to have flung the child out of a window from a height of at least 10 meters. A picture in "B.Z." displayed a blue plastic container, where cats are regularly conveyed. It lay in front of a house next to bike racks, surrounded by a police-erected red-white tape marking the crime scene. In the home, police found another child, aged nine, aside from the mother. The child was later handed to the youth welfare authority.
A homicide task force took control of the investigation against the mother for trying to murder her child. The woman has yet to make any statements, reported the prosecution. No clear indications of drug use or major neglect were noted by police. The father of the children or another man was not observed by the police in the apartment on Tuesday. The prosecution petitioned for the mother's arrest and remand in custody. On Tuesday, the woman was set to appear before a judge.
