Pilgrimage - More than 3000 pilgrims on the way from Osnabrück to Telgte

Thousands of pilgrims are on their way from Osnabrück to the Münsterland pilgrimage site Telgte. The first believers are said to have started early on Saturday morning in the inner city of Osnabrück, according to Martin Schomaker, Dean of the St. Johann Parish in Osnabrück.

A few hours later, in Glandorf, at the border with North Rhine-Westphalia, there were reportedly 3000 people who ran together singing and praying into Münsterland. "More people have joined us again," the clergyman said: "There are many young people among them." The weather is ideal. The distance between Osnabrück and Telgte is about 48 kilometers.

A large number of pilgrims are also expected to participate in the parallel bike pilgrimage, said Schomaker. "These are often people who can no longer walk long distances, but still want to participate in the pilgrimage."

Bishops join in

The motto of this year's pilgrimage is "Come with us." In the morning, the Osnabrück Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Wübbe celebrated a church service in Oedingberge. The arrival in Telgte is planned for Saturday around 4:30 pm. There, Bishop Felix Genn of Münster and the former Bishop of Osnabrück, Franz-Josef Bode, are also expected to join the pilgrimage procession. On Sunday morning, the pilgrimage returns to Osnabrück.

The pilgrimage procession between Osnabrück and Telgte has been taking place annually since 1852. In the years 2020 and 2021, the event had to be canceled due to the Corona pandemic.
