More than 300 vehicles in cross-border inspection

Police officers and customs officers have checked more than 500 people and over 300 vehicles during a cross-border control operation. More than 40 criminal and misdemeanor proceedings were initiated and several arrest warrants were executed, the police in Trier announced on Saturday. The aim was to take joint action against cross-border and traveling groups of thieves. Officers from Luxembourg and Belgium as well as US military police from Spangdahlem Air Base in the Eifel region were involved in the checks.

Two large checkpoints were set up on Friday evening at the highway parking lots Hochwald on the A1 and Nimstal on the A60. Officers from the judiciary and immigration authorities were also involved in the operation.

The authorities discovered evidence of potential smuggling activities during the cross-border checks, leading to several investigations related to customs violations. Subsequently, the authorities arrested several individuals suspected of being part of cross-border crime syndicates.
