More than 300 signatures for FDP consultation on traffic light

More than 300 party members have so far joined the initiative for an FDP member survey on further participation in the traffic light coalition. In addition, around 50 applications are on the way, said one of the co-initiators, Kassel district chairman Matthias Nölke, to the German Press Agency in Berlin. It is expected that the required number of 500 signatures for the initiative will be collected in accordance with the constitution.

"As a party, we are in an existential crisis. The initiative should make it clear that not everyone in the party agrees with this course in the traffic light," said Nölke. The survey of party members is a legitimate instrument. He said: "If a majority of members then decide that the FDP should remain in the traffic light, then so be it. But then the demand for more FDP in the coalition must finally be taken into account."

The initiative follows an open letter from 26 state and local FDP politicians who, following the poor election results in Hesse and Bavaria, called for the FDP to reconsider its coalition partners. FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki told the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" that the signatories of the letter had "an emotional drive, an understandable wish, but one that has not been thought through to the end".

The initiative for an FDP member survey on further participation in the traffic light coalition has gained support from over 300 party members, with around 50 more applications pending. Despite being in an existential crisis, Nölke believes that if a majority of members agree to remain in the traffic light coalition, their demands for increased FDP representation should be considered.
