Criminal activity data. - More than 2500 people under suspicion for offenses committed with knives

In the city of Berlin, statistics show that out of 2575 individuals connected to crimes involving knives, around 1000 were native Germans. Around 1370 were from different nationalities, while 200 held dual citizenship. This data was shared by both the Berlin Senate and the Police Department in response to an inquiry from the AfD (Alternative for Germany) concerning criminal statistics.

Information on the migration history of these knife-wielding suspects, predominantly male adults, teens, and even minors, was not mentioned. Additionally, the Senate declined to reveal the top 20 most frequent German names among these suspects. Their reasoning for this was to prevent potential identification.

The number of incidents involving knives has been steadily increasing in recent times. In the Berlin police's crime data from the past year, a total of 3482 "knife attack" cases were recorded. These stats comprise multiple instances where a knife was brandished but not utilized. In 2022, there were 3317 registered crimes where knives were utilized, approximately 2777 in 2021, and approximately 2600 instances in 2020.

The escalating knife-related crimes are believed to be linked to a growing trend of carrying knives. Law enforcement agencies have reported that some social groups consider it trendy to own a knife. The Senate also notes a correlation with the overall rise in violent crimes and the transfer of social skills.
