More than 20 people have drowned in the summer already.

Searing heat, piercing sun, only one wish: into the water. Many underestimate the risk or overestimate themselves - and drown. This applies especially to men.

- More than 20 people have drowned in the summer already.

Since the start of the bathing season in early May, over 20 people have already drowned in rivers and lakes, in creeks, ponds, or harbors in Baden-Württemberg. In May, two bathers lost their lives, with nine each in June and July, according to a statistic from the German Life Saving Association (DLRG).

The number for the entire summer is set to rise even further. For instance, last weekend, a 17-year-old disappeared in the Danube in Ulm, his body was found days later. Additionally, a woman and a teenager drowned in the Rhine at Hohentengen. The body of a man was also found in a quarry lake in the Schwarzwald-Baar district, and another man drowned in a swimming pool in Lörrach.

In the first seven months of the year, at least 27 people drowned in the southwest, according to DLRG, which is one more than in the same period last year. Two out of three accident victims (18) were men, with ten of them being over 70 years old.

The bathing season in Baden-Württemberg continues to pose risks, as a woman and a teenager tragically drowned in the Rhine at Hohentengen during this time. Despite the ongoing bathing season, efforts to ensure safety in water bodies should be intensified to prevent further fatalities.
