- More than 20 applications for cannabis cultivation

About a month after the launch, 21 applications for cannabis cultivation for personal use have been submitted in Lower Saxony. Eight of these have already been approved as of the beginning of this week, the Agricultural Chamber informed the German Press Agency upon request.

Eight applications for a so-called cannabis cultivation association were rejected. Reasons for this can include not meeting youth protection guidelines, such as being too close to a playground or school. Associations can, however, improve or resubmit their applications.

According to the Agricultural Chamber, applications came in from many regions in the federal state - from cities like Hanover, Osnabrück, Oldenburg, Brunswick, or several districts such as Hameln-Pyrmont, Wesermarsch, Friesland, or the district of Harburg near Hamburg.

Associations are to be regularly inspected.

Since July 1, non-commercial cultivation associations with up to 500 members have been able to submit applications nationwide to start cultivating and sharing cannabis. To submit an application for a cultivation association, adults must provide a current certificate of good conduct. They must also submit a health and youth protection concept and prove that the cannabis being grown is adequately protected from third-party access and that THC levels are controlled and documented. There are set limits for cultivation and delivery quantities. Regular inspections are also provided for by law.

Since April 1, adults have been able to legally carry up to 25 grams of cannabis in public and store up to 50 grams at home as part of the cannabis legalization.

In addition to cities like Hanover, applications for cannabis cultivation associations also originated from other regions in Lower Saxony, such as Osnabrück and Oldenburg. Despite rejections for eight applications due to not meeting youth protection guidelines, numerous applicants in Lower Saxony, including Brunswick and several districts like Hameln-Pyrmont and Harburg near Hamburg, are eager to establish cannabis cultivation associations.
