Visitor record - More than 103,000 people attended the Bad Hersfeld Festival
More than 103,000 visitors have attended the current Bad Hersfelder Festspiele so far. This result ranks among the highest in the history of the theater festival and is the best in the seven-year tenure of Intendant Jörn Hinkel, the festival management announced on Wednesday. The overall occupancy rate was almost 96 percent. Last year, over 90,000 visitors were counted.
"What we have all created together at this year's Bad Hersfelder Festspiele has truly resonated with the audience," said Hinkel, who will leave the festival after the 2025 season, according to the announcement. Rarely has he received so many enthusiastic reactions to all productions in one year.
The 73rd edition of the festival will conclude this Sunday with a performance of the musical "A Chorus Line". More than 34,000 people wanted to see the new production of the successful Broadway musical, according to the festival management. Since the opening on June 21, the Bertolt Brecht classic "Die Dreigroschenoper" has also been shown, attracting over 25,000 spectators. The program also included the play "Wie im Himmel", the comedy "Der Vorname", and for children, the piece "Das kleine Gespenst".
The Bad Hersfeld festival is one of the largest and most traditional in Germany. The program for the 74th edition of the theater festival in 2025 will be announced at the end of October.
