Fireworks and boat parade - More than 100,000 people expected to attend "Rhine in flames"
More than 100,000 visitors are expected at "Rhein in Flammen" between Spay and Koblenz this Saturday. A convoy of 29 ships will traverse the Rhine, accompanied by fireworks. The highlight will be the grand fireworks display (11:00 PM) over the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein, opposite the German Corner in Koblenz.
Last year, around 140,000 people celebrated "Rhein in Flammen" between Spay and Koblenz, according to the then organizer. In the city on the Rhine and Mosel, the Summer Festival will also be celebrated this weekend. Around 140,000 visitors are expected in Koblenz over the three days.
The history of fireworks over the river valley goes back a long way: As early as 1756, a fireworks display was said to have been held in Koblenz in honor of Elector Johann Philipp von Walderdorff. The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, and in 2022, drought posed problems.
