From Rügen to Stralsund - More than 1,000 participants at the 59th Sundschwimmen

Over 1,000 people participated in the 59th Sund swimming event on the island of Rügen. With partly strong winds and a water temperature of 18 degrees, the swimmers completed the 2,300 meter long stretch from Altefähr on Rügen to Stralsund, as the organizers announced. Athletes had registered from all federal states and many European countries.

Children were also allowed to participate. According to the organizers, 88 young swimmers had registered.

Approximately 350 lifeguards, paramedics, helpers, doctors, and security personnel were in action. About 3,000 spectators followed the arrival of the swimmers at Strandbad Stralsund. The Sund swimming between Rügen and Stralsund has been taking place since 1965. According to the organizers, it is the oldest long-distance swim in Germany.
