"More seriousness": SC Freiburg searches for balance
After two home games without a win, including the DFB Cup defeat to second-division side SC Paderborn, SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich is expecting an improvement in defense. Against FK TSC Bačka Topola on Thursday (21:00/RTL and RTL+), his team should "act with more seriousness and balance", said Streich one day before the Europa League match.
"This is a very important game for various reasons," said the coach. "In terms of the table, because we haven't won our last two home games and because we've conceded too many goals." There were three against both Paderborn and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. "We often defended too poorly and can't always chase back goals," he said.
Streich is optimistic about the performance of the young players. After Merlin Röhl's goal preparation, Noah Weißhaupt's debut goal and the successful debut of left-back Jordy Makengo against Gladbach, "maybe one or two of them will start," said Streich.
In the first leg two weeks ago, Freiburg turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 victory. Vincenzo Grifo scored all three goals for the runners-up in Group A.
SC Freiburg will need to show more seriousness and balance in their defense during their Europa League match against FK TSC Baçka Topola on Thursday, as coach Christian Streich looks to address their recent home form and defensive issues. This game is crucial for the team, given their lack of wins in their last two home games and the high number of goals conceded, especially against second-division side SC Paderborn and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
