More respiratory diseases in Saxony-Anhalt

Colds and respiratory diseases are also currently on the rise in Saxony-Anhalt. "The reports of Covid-19, influenza and RSV have increased significantly compared to the previous week", according to the latest weekly report from the State Office for Consumer Protection. The RSV wave appears to have begun. RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus and, according to the RKI, is one of the most important pathogens causing respiratory infections in infants, especially premature babies and small children.

According to the state office, the current Covid-19 cases mainly affect adults, RSV also affects preschool children and infants and influenza also affects preschool children.

In the 45th calendar week, 1474 coronavirus cases were recorded and 132 patients were treated in hospital. Of these, eight were under the age of 18 and 111 were aged 60 and over. Eleven deaths were reported.

The number of influenza cases last week was 29, bringing the total number of cases statistically recorded since the beginning of September to 58. The influenza wave has not yet begun.

It was only on Thursday that the RKI reported high numbers of colds and respiratory illnesses nationwide. The experts estimate that there were around 6.8 million acute respiratory illnesses in the population in the previous week, regardless of whether the patient had seen a doctor or not. There is increasing evidence of coronavirus and also an increasing spread of RSV.

The rise in respiratory diseases in Saxony-Anhalt, including Covid-19, influenza, and RSV, is a concern for health authorities. Science plays a crucial role in understanding and combating these diseases, with the RSV wave adding to the challenges.
