Weather - More rain than snow in NRW: hardly any accidents due to icy conditions
More rain than snow will fall in North Rhine-Westphalia in the coming days. On Tuesday, temperatures will rise to two degrees in East Westphalia and up to seven degrees in the Rhineland, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) in Essen. In the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, there were also a few accidents in rush-hour traffic due to slippery roads, according to the police. However, officials from the districts of Lippe and Höxter spoke of only a few traffic restrictions in the morning.
Wednesday will be wet again. The maximum temperatures will be between plus one degree in East Westphalia and six degrees on the Lower Rhine. It will clear up a little in the west on Thursday night. Only in the east will it still be raining and snowing. In the mountains, there is a risk of slippery conditions with lows of minus two degrees due to freezing rain.

Despite the ongoing rain, North Rhine-Westphalia's (NRW) roads remain relatively safe, as reported by the DWD. This is largely due to the scarcity of icy conditions, leading to a reduction in accidents. In contrast, a few minor accidents were reported in the eastern part of NRW due to slippery roads during rush hour, as stated by the local police.
The Rhineland is expected to experience temperatures around seven degrees this Tuesday, while East Westphalia will only reach two degrees, according to the DWD's forecast. The rainfall will continue on Wednesday in East Westphalia, with temperatures barely exceeding one degree, and in the west, it will be wet but will clear up a little during the night.
The wetness persists even in the mountains, where freezing rain poses a risk of slippery conditions, with low temperatures dropping to -2 degrees. Despite the constant rain, the traffic in areas like Lippe and Höxter remains largely unaffected, with only a few minor restrictions in the morning.
