More police presence after attack on car in front of the state parliament
Following the attack on the car of a CDU member of parliament in front of the state parliament, the police have increased their presence on site. "Due to yesterday's incident, more patrols were carried out in front of the state parliament both yesterday evening and today," a police spokeswoman told the German Press Agency on Thursday. The police are in close contact with the state parliament and are carrying out daily risk analyses. A fundamental assessment of the increase in security measures is the responsibility of the State Office of Criminal Investigation.
A 42-year-old woman hit the windshield of CDU MP Lukas Kilian's car with a hammer during the state parliament session in Kiel on Wednesday. Police officers were able to arrest the woman without resistance. She was admitted to a specialist clinic. According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the 42-year-old has already exhibited conspicuous psychological behavior on several occasions.
A state parliament spokesperson did not want to comment on the security precautions at the parliament on Thursday. Kilian reported to dpa on Wednesday that he had not understood the woman's request and had sat down in the car. The woman followed him, first ripped open the driver's door and then smashed the windshield of the car with a hammer. She then shouted "Minister, Minister". The incident caused damage to property.
The increased police presence is aimed at ensuring security at the Parliament following the hamming attack on a CDU MP's car. The police are regularly conducting risk analyses in collaboration with the state parliament in response to the crime.
