"More opportunities again": Sallai and Röhl back
Ahead of what could be a decisive step towards the knockout phase of the Europa League, SC Freiburg once again have more personnel alternatives available than recently. Hungarian international Roland Sallai and Germany U21 talent Merlin Röhl are both back from injury and are options for Thursday's home game against Olympiakos Piraeus (18:45/RTL+).
"It's really important for us that they're back," said coach Christian Streich one day before the clash with the Greeks. "It gives us more options again. Recently, the options were already limited." In the previous Bundesliga match against SV Darmstadt 98 (1:1), four players were on the bench who had already played for the second team in the 3rd division this season.
With a draw against the 47-time Greek champions, Freiburg could secure a place in the Europa League this winter. A defeat would mean relegation to the Conference League. "We have it on our radar that this is Olympiakos' last chance," said attacker Lucas Höler. "But that doesn't change our approach. Our aim is to keep the three points here, especially at home. The pressure is a bit higher at Olympiakos, but that doesn't bother us."
SC Freiburg's recovery of Roland Sallai and Merlin Röhl from injury provides a significant boost for their Europa League campaign, as they prepare to face Olympiakos Piraeus in a crucial home game. The duo's return increases the team's options for the match, as they look to secure a place in the Europa League this winter.
