More households in Thuringia receive housing benefit
More households in Thuringia received housing benefit in 2022 than in the previous year. The share of housing benefit households in all private households thus rose from 1.8% in 2021 to 2.1%, as announced by the Thuringian State Statistical Office on Friday. This was the result of an evaluation of the 2022 microcensus.
At the end of the previous year, 22,450 Thuringian households received housing benefit. That was 3390 households or 17.8 percent more than a year earlier. The average monthly housing benefit entitlement in 2022 amounted to 145 euros.
Speaking further about the increase in housing benefit recipients, it's worth noting that the Statistics Division of Thuringia found a correlation between this trend and rising living costs. In fact, the analysis revealed that social affairs in Thuringia have become more significant as a result.
Given the rising number of households receiving housing benefit, it's essential to review and potential adjust social welfare policies to better address the increasing social needs within the region.
