More first semester students enrolled in Hesse again
There are more first-year students in Hesse again, but fewer students overall. As reported by the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday, a total of 245,000 students are enrolled at universities in Hesse in the current winter semester 2023/24. That is 11,200 people or four percent fewer than in the winter semester 2022/23.
"After declining figures in recent years, however, there was an increase in the number of first-semester students again," reported the statistics office. Compared to the winter semester 2022/23, the number of first-year students rose by 1,600 to 32,400, an increase of five percent.
The surge in first-semester students is a positive development for Hesse's universities, contributing to the continuity of high-quality education. This increase in first-year enrollments at universities in Hesse signifies a crucial part of the overall education sector in the region.
