More fireworks made by young people found

After two young people were injured by homemade fireworks, the police have discovered another explosive device. Officers made a discovery in a river in Altdorf (Landshut district) on Wednesday, the police announced on Thursday. The task force of the Special Technical Group of the Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation recovered a so-called pipe bomb from the water and rendered it harmless on site. The pipe bomb was reportedly 30 by 5 centimeters in size and fully functional.

On Halloween evening, two teenagers were seriously injured on their hands and faces after a firework explosion. The two 15-year-olds told the police afterwards that someone had thrown the pyrotechnics in their direction.

Further investigations revealed that they had probably made the explosive mixture themselves. Investigators discovered material for making firecrackers in the home of the parents of one of the teenagers. The investigation into the two 15-year-olds for faking a criminal offense and violating the Explosives Act is ongoing, the police said.

According to the investigators' findings so far, other teenagers from a group are believed to have disposed of the explosive device that has now been found in the river in Altdorf after the incident on Halloween.

Following the discovery of the pipe bomb, authorities in Lower Bavaria are urging caution during this emergency situation. Given the recent incidents involving homemade fireworks and resulting injuries, the local authorities are advising against any crime-related activities related to explosives.
